One of the many benefits of the sport coat is its ability to make any outfit look better, without risking appearing too formal. A great sport coat will enhance any piece of clothing, and tie an outfit together. Whether it is your first or tenth sport coat, there is always room to mix and match with what you own, and test new options. Just for you, we have built a guide on our top five ways to wear your sport coat.
1. Timeless. For an informal work function or dinner party.
What: Well fitted white dress shirt, tie, solid trousers. Aim for a shirt with a broad collar that will stand up well without a tie.
This is formal enough for a causal work function or dinner party, without being too fancy. It allows you to coordinate different items in your wardrobe, and if you are feeling more adventurous, try mixing patterns or adding a pop of colour. Finish off the look with some oxfords or monk straps to bring it together.
2. The Weekend Go-To. For casual outings and everyday wear.
What: Jeans and a t-shirt. Sneakers if you wish.
This will instantly make you look smart, but not out of place. By adding good fit and a classic cut, it will take your casual go-to pieces to the next level. Go for something bold like a graphic tee, or keep it simple with white.
3. Contemporary Casual. For a relaxed night out and drinks with friends.
What: Patterned or oxford dress shirt, jeans and, leather boots
For a casual but creative look, pick a bolder print dress shirt to pair with your jacket. The Chinos can be neutral or contrasting fabric if you want your jacket to pop. Leather boots ground the outfit and add a bit of rugged flare.
What: An oxford shirt, bow tie, and bright pocket square. Go for jeans or trousers, and an optional sweater layered in.
If you like a preppier look, pair your sport coat with a button down oxford shirt and a v neck pullover. This is crisp and classic, but still modern. If you like, add a knit tie and pocket square for some added interest and individuality.
What: Layered with a sweater and khaki trousers, desert boots, and optional scarf.
Just in time for the chillier weather, your MADE sport coat can transition into the perfect outerwear piece. You can mix colours and textures by layering it with a cashmere crewneck or wool cardi. This is a great opportunity to add a punch of colour with a scarf or pair of gloves.
